THE GARDEN SLUG

Feel that working on a Saturday is such a bummer? Well, I like to think that I get to eat good food with my soul-buddy after that. So yup, today is another working Saturday for us and off we go to another cafe-hunt.

Situated along a quiet road, would recommend people to drive if they want to visit the cafe some day. I was actually quite surprised that the cafe is not really crowded at 2pm on a weekend. Good thing for us, we got our seat immediately when we stepped in.

*Photo taken with my Samsung S4, sorry for the poor image quality*

THE GARDEN SLUG
55 Lorong L Telok Kurau #01-59/61 Singapore 425500
Operating hours: Mon & Tues - 6pm to 10pm, Wed & Thurs - 10am to 10pm, Fri to Sun - 9am to 10pm
Home Brewed Southeast Asian Teas: Lemongrass $4.80
(One of their in-house recommended drink)
Infusion Teas: Earl Grey $5.50
Tofu and Zucchini Fingers $11.90
(Quite an interesting finger food to start with, love their dipping sauce)
Runny Salmon Scramble-Up $15.90
Smoked salmon atop Creamy scrambled eggs
(Another of their 'Recommended' on the menu, portion looks small but it's actually super filling)
Smoked Salmon & Florentine Eggs Benedict $19.50
With creamed spinach & oodies of smoked salmon
(Egg Benedicts for me as usual~ This is on their 'Today Special' menu. I actually do love their combination of poached eggs, hollandaise sauce & spinach)
Pear William $12.50
Pear stewed in spiced red wine, topped with cream cheese, walnut & gelato
(Love the pear with cream cheese & walnut, but the gelato could be way better)
Natural Rainbow Cake $12.50
Oozing with light yoghurt cream cheese frosting. Six pastel layers gently dyed with puree of Blackberry, Blueberry, Matcha, Carrot, Yolk & Beets forming the rainbow colours
(From the 'Today Special' menu as well. A little pricey for a slice of cake but a healthier choice of all rainbow cakes because they use natural colour instead of food colouring)
There are many other interesting food on the menu that caught our attention, definitely a cafe I would want to visit again.

NOOK HOUSE OF PANCAKES

Among my group of friends, I'm always the one recommending food places when we do meetups. So this time, finally get to meet up with my ex-colleagues from FOX. Did not put too much expectation on the food because to me, DIY usually means having fun & fun food usually do not taste that good. Oh boy I was wrong~

NOOK HOUSE OF PANCAKES
Bukit Timah, 21 Lorong Kilat, #01-03, Singapore 598123
Operating Hours: Mon to Fri - 12pm to 10pm, Sat & Sun - 10am to 10pm
Contact No: 6466 1811
2-Flavoured DIY Pancake, with choice of 3 toppings $28
We chose Dark Chocolate & Asian Pandan flavour for the pancake with Cream Cheese, Blueberry & Banana for the toppings.
(Was really surprised when I tried this because not only is it fun, it taste nice too. The pancake already taste good on its own without any toppings, and you can really taste the chocolate & pandan taste)
Trying to get all arty-farty~
How does it taste like eating your own name??
The Breakfast Bully $18
Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Gourmet Sausage, sauteed Mushroom, baked beans, vine riped Tomatoes, Breakfast Potatoes & Brioche
The N.Y.C $16
Bagel with smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese
Red Velvet Pancake $14
Madness Strawberry Milkshake $4.50
(Being not a fan of strawberry, this taste really smooth & milky. Nice~)
Apple Juice
Earl Grey Lavender $3
Surprisingly good food for a DIY concept cafe. Other than the location which was quite inconvenient (whole journey took an hour plus from Tampines. Took a train, bus, & walked for quite a distance), everything else was ok. What more can I ask for? Good food while having fun at the same time. Will definitely come back again to try other food on the menu. =P

DOLCE TOKYO

Chanced upon this Japanese Italian cafe one day while walking around Somerset 313. The design of the cafe looks nice, so decided to give it a try.

DOLCE TOKYO
313 Somerset, 313 Orchard Road, #03-23, S(238895), +65 68365612
Operating hour: 11.30am - 10.30pm
Fresh Strawberry Shake $7.50
(Not a fan of strawberry but this taste goooood~ Not too sweet & not too 'gelat')
Ice Macha Latte $7.50
(Taste like Starbucks Green Tea Latte)
Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict $20
Poached eggs, cheese, Smoked Salmon on toasted bread drizzled with Hollandaise sauce. Served with Side Salad
(The portion of the food looks small, but it's definitely super filling)
The yummy Hollandaise sauce to go with the Egg Benedict. Creamy, sour, appetizing with a tint of Wasabi. Nice~ And you can pour the amount to your liking.
Essential British $18
Baked beans, Chorizo Sausage, Scambled eggs on mashed potato drizzled with Brown sauce, cheese on toast
Homemade Macha Cake with Black Sesame Cream $11.50
(So cute, they serve it in a birdcage. Was embarrassed by it at first, but the cake is really yummy)
Single Espresso $3.80
(Cake & coffee, best combination)
My dinner date for the night, Adeline!!! Yummy food with awesome companion.. =)
Came during dinner time about 8pm on a Friday night & surprised to find seats immediately, no queue & not crowded at all. Could be due to the fact that it's located on the third floor & no one really knows about it. So guys, do drop by their cafe to try out their food!! Would definitely want to try their other food on the menu the next time.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Today is a super duper epic foodhunt day. Went to the proposed food place only to find out it's closed for renovation, so we went to the next door restaurant only to find out it's closed for lunch & will only re-open for business an hour later. We were stuck at the deserted road for a while until we met a nice indian worker who let us hitch a ride down to the main road. Thank you so much!! So eventually, we finally settled our lunch at Food For Thought at Singapore Botanic Gardens.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Singapore Botanic Gardens: 1 Cluny Road, Tanglin Gate, #B1-00, S(259569)
Operating hour: Mon - Sun, 8am - 9pm (last order at 8.30pm)

National Museum of Singapore: 93 Stamford Road, #01-04/05, S(178897)
Operating hours: Mon - Sat, 10am - 10pm (last order at 8.50pm)
                         Sun, 10am - 9pm (last order at 7.50pm)

Queen Street: 8 Queen Street, S(188535)
Operating hour: Mon - Sun, 11am - 7pm (last order at 6.30pm)

Our mains:
Rosemary Blood Orange Soda & Grapefruit Lychee Sage Soda $7
(This is simply refreshing~)
All-day Breakfast: Classic Works, Full $20
Scrambled eggs, bacon, butter toast, hashbrowns, roasted tomato salad, chicken sausage, garlic mushrooms
Smoked Salmon & Broccoli Plate $18
Flaked hot smoked salmon, roasted beetroot, chargrilled broccoli, aioli
Fries, with chunky Chilli Cheese sauce $9
Pink Velvet Cake $7
(This is too cute, pink velvet instead of the traditional red velvet. The cream cheese is awesome but i find the cake a little dry & flaky)

Love the huge spacious & quiet atmosphere, no doubt you'll see many students & adults doing their work here. For parents with kids, there is a mini playground directly outside the restaurant for the kids to play with. After a good heavy meal, there is always the park there for you to take a stroll with.
